The municipality is the base level form of government and consists of a city, borough or township. It is governed by an elected Board of Supervisors or Commissioners, or an elected Mayor and Council. These officials determine property taxes, road maintenance priorities, approve developments, and are responsible for police, zoning and building permits, etc. Advisory boards advise on activities such as parks and recreation, planning, etc.
